Miss Mahoney in some of her Christmas finery! This is from the day she visited Santa...I cannot wait to get that picture, she did not seem at all interested is hanging out with him!
We were not a very religious family, so Christmas was not all about the birth of Jesus....my mom made it about the magic of Christmas. That almost euphoric feeling of happiness and joy, sometimes the feeling is deep down and you have to dig for it...like me in recent years...and then there is years like this one, where even working in retail did not dissipate my excitement. Seeing Mahoney absorb the magic has been wonderful...the way she looks at the glowing tree, and calls all the ornaments "pretty" and how she can almost say Santa...that happened yesterday...all of this makes me want to keep this magical spirit with me all through the year!
So, tonight as we sit down to our annual Christmas Eve dinner of pizza, in a warm home decorated like the cover of a magazine, candles smelling of spice and pine and my favorite holiday movies play...I vow to keep Christmas with me throughout the year. Take a moment every day, to stop and take note of your blessings, especially on those bad days. I challenge you to do the same!
